Volunteers Needed for ISSA Education Foundation’s Scholarship Committee
The ISSA Education Foundation (www.issaef.org) has developed scholarship programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for people who are interested in pursuing a career in information security. As of spring 2011, the Foundation has granted 4 scholarships - 2 undergraduate and 2 graduate level scholarships, with plans in place to continue our efforts for the next school year. We plan to expand our scholarship grants to other areas, funds permitting, and possibly offering grants to existing information security professionals needing assistance to pay fees for their professional training and/or certification programs.
We are also supporting ISSA Chapter scholarship programs. Discussions are currently underway on a pilot program to migrate the management and administration of two U.S. chapter scholarship programs to the Foundation.
ISSAEF is currently looking for individuals willing to assist on its Scholarship Committee. Typical duties include: candidate application review and ranking, periodic conference calls to discuss applicant qualifications, maintenance of existing committee procedures when necessary, and awarding scholarships to qualified applicants.
Remember that this opportunity isn’t only a great way to give back to the Information Security community, but you’ll also earn CPEs towards your re-certification!!!
Please email Deb Peinert at application@issa-foundation.org, if you would like to volunteer or get more details.

Melinda states that “This scholarship means a great deal to me and will help tremendously in my academic pursuits. The scholarship award is truly an act of kindness that will not be forgotten. I hope someday to make a positive difference in the realm of information security.”
The 2012 Undergraduate Studies Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Nicholas Hagood of Radford University.
